Cruden grabs ITM Cup Player of the Year award

Manawatu Turbos first five Aaron Cruden received national recognition when he was named ITM Cup Player of the Year at the annual Steinlager Awards in Auckland. Cruden was a central figure in the Manawatu Turbos’ success in the 2011 ITM Cup. For the past few years he has been the shining light in the team and this year that light shone brightly. The talented fly-half has the skills and vision that many number 10’s only dream of possessing and who will forget his chip kick inside his own 22 that sparked the length-of-the-field try against Waikato in August. The national awards caps off a great few months for the talented youngsters as he was named Players’ Player of the Year at the Turbo awards, named Other awards went to:
- NZRU Age Grade Player of the Year: Sam Cane (Bay of Plenty)
- Richard Crawshaw Memorial Sevens Player of the Year: Tim Mikkelson (Waikato)
- NZRU Referee of the Year: Bryce Lawrence
- NZRU Women's Player of the Year: Fiao'o Fa'amausili (Auckland)
- Charles Monro Rugby Volunteer of the Year: Andy MacDonald (Canterbury)
- Investec Super Rugby Player of the Year: Wyatt Crockett (Canterbury)
- Tom French Memorial Maori Player of the Year Piri Weepu – Whakatohea (Wellington)
- Heartland Championship Player of the Year: Jon Smyth (Wanganui)
- Team of the Year: All Blacks
- NZRU Coach of the Year: Graham Henry
- Steinlager Salver for an Outstanding Contribution to New Zealand Rugby: Jock Hobbs
- Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year: Jerome Kaino (Auckland)
